Oil prices fell below $81 a barrel Monday in Asia amid investor concerns flagging US crude demand doesn't justify the recent rally. The contract rose 60 cents to settle at $82.09 on Friday. Oil prices jumped from $69 early last month on expectations an improving US economy would bring crude demand up with it.

No. 7 TCU scored five unearned runs in the bottom of the first and Texas Tech couldn't recover as the Horned Frogs handed the Red Raiders a three-game series sweep with an 8-5 win on Sunday afternoon at Lupton Stadium. The loss is Tech's fourth consecutive as the Red Raiders fall below .500 at 8-9 while TCU improves to 12-2 on the season. Texas Tech returns to Lubbock for a midweek game against Texas State Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. before hitting the road next weekend for the Big 12 opener at Texas A&M. Th  

Leon Powe has seen the Boston Celtics at their best. They aren't there anymore. After coming off the bench and helping the Cleveland Cavaliers put away the Celtics 104-93 on Sunday, Powe, who won an NBA title with Boston in 2008, took a moment to reflect on his former team, a squad showing signs of age and perhaps vulnerability.

Stephen Strasburg is more than holding his own against major league hitters. Challenging weather conditions aren't intimidating the Washington Nationals' top prospect either. Strasburg pitched three scoreless innings, but the Nationals fell to 0-10 in exhibition play with a 7-3 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday.

The BYU baseball team found out just how true that statement is in its home opener against Washington. With a total of 36 runs, the Cougars finished the weekend with a 2-1 record, bringing their season record to 6-8. "Execution is really something that we stress," BYU head coach Vance Law said, "and something that this last week has been a real stressing point for us."  

They were pushed to the limits but Prince of Wales (POW) capped off their undefeated season with victory in the Gulgong District cricket grand final yesterday. Bowler Dean Illott was the knight in shining armour for the princes as he took four wickets to shatter Centennial Hotel's premiership hopes. Chasing 131 for victory, Centennial Hotel fell eight runs short of their mark.  

Stephen Strasburg pitched three scoreless innings and the Washington Nationals fell to 0-10 in exhibition play with yesterday's 7-3 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. Strasburg, the top overall pick in last year's draft who signed a record $15.1 million contract, allowed two singles and a walk in his second spring training start. The right-hander threw 29 of 49 pitches for strikes, often battling gusty crosswinds.  

Stephen Jackson scored 28 points, Raymond Felton had 16 and visiting Charlotte held on for their sixth straight victory yesterday. Stephen Graham added 12 points to help the Bobcats pull away with a late 12-3 run. Dwight Howard had 27 points and 16 rebounds, and Vince Carter finished with 23 points for the Magic, who had their eight-game winning streak snapped.

I refer, of course, to Stephen Conroy, who has since had the 'shadow' removed from his title and now leads Australia's technology and telecommunications policy portfolio.
